SBA New Mexico Legacy Award Recipient 2026
On May 8, 2026, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) New Mexico District Office hosted its annual Small Business Awards ceremony, bringing together entrepreneurs, community leaders, and small business advocates from across the state to celebrate excellence and resilience in New Mexico's small business community. Among the most memorable moments of the event was the presentation of the SBA New Mexico District Legacy Award to Karla Causey, President of the Black Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico (BCCNM). The Legacy Award is the SBA's highest district honor, recognizing individuals whose sustained contributions have left an enduring mark on the small business ecosystem. Karla Causey received the award "in recognition of your contribution to small businesses," as inscribed on the crystal award. Under Karla's leadership, the Black Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico has championed Black-owned and other underserved businesses through advocacy, programming, access to capital initiatives, and community partnerships. Her work has helped open doors for entrepreneurs who have historically faced systemic barriers to business ownership and growth. The ceremony brought together award recipients from a wide range of industries and backgrounds, reflecting the diversity and strength of New Mexico's small business community. Attendees included fellow chamber leaders, SBA officials, elected representatives, and business owners who gathered to honor the year's outstanding achievers. The BCCNM congratulates all 2026 SBA New Mexico Small Business Award recipients and extends special pride in seeing President Karla Causey recognized at the highest level for her tireless dedication to our community.

2026 Youth Empowerment Summit
The Inner Beauty Summit brought together young women and girls from across the Albuquerque community for a transformative day of empowerment, wellness, and self-discovery. Hosted by the Black Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico, the summit featured inspiring keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and mentorship sessions designed to uplift the next generation of Black women leaders. Participants engaged in sessions covering mental health and self-care, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, personal branding and confidence-building, and community advocacy. Local business owners, educators, and community leaders served as mentors and panelists, sharing their journeys and wisdom with attendees. The event created a safe and affirming space where young women could connect with peers, discover their strengths, and leave with renewed purpose and practical tools for their futures. The energy, laughter, and heartfelt conversations throughout the day reflected the deep need for and impact of this kind of community-centered programming. BCCNM is proud to have hosted this event and looks forward to continuing to invest in the growth and well-being of Black youth in New Mexico.
